One of the songs from the shelved Deftones’ album, “Eros,” was released yesterday to commemorate the one year anniversary of the death of former bassist Chi Cheng.
“Eros” was supposed to be the group’s sixth studio album and was in production when Cheng was seriously injured in a car accident Nov. 4, 2008. He had been in a semi-conscious state until his death last year. Fans have been speculating about the fate of “Eros” for years, more so since Cheng passed.
The song, “Smile,” was posted to lead singer Chino Mareno’s official Twitter and the Deftones’ official Facebook. It had more than 1,000 retweets from Moreno’s Twitter and is now unavailable due to “a copyright claim from Warner Brother’s Music,” which is the label Deftones are signed to. However, there is a second upload that will surely be brought down soon.
The release of the song is sure to add speculation to when “Eros” will actually be released, but there has been no word from the band at this time.

March 3 was a big day for the two biggest festivals in Missouri as the line-ups for 98.9’s Rockfest and 105.7’s Pointfest were both announced. This is welcome news, as I noted in a blog that posted in early June Missouri has had a serious lack of metal. I skipped both of last year’s festivals in favor of small shows with artists I really wanted to see instead of Alice in Chains and Papa Roach as headliners.
I’ll jump right in!
I was woken up Monday morning by a continuous buzz of my phone as my friends bombarded me with news on the lineup to Rockfest. I scraped the sleep out of my eyes and checked out the video, and was pleasantly surprised!
I mean, Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, Staind, Steel Panther, The Pretty Reckless, Black Label Society, Pop Evil, Killswitch Engage, and more! I feel like this is a stacked lineup and I am proud to be going. Typically, Rockfest has been a festival where I want to see maybe one or two bands, but I feel like this day is going to be amazing.
So let’s move to Disappointfest…err.. Pointfest..
Organizers did a band by band announcement via Facebook and I don’t really know how I feel about the show overall.
This year’s show includes Queens of the Stone Age, The Offspring, Crosses, and… well.. a bunch of hipster bands. I don’t mean to discredit any bands, and I’m sure it will be a great show, but there isn’t a single other band I’m excited to see. Last year’s lineup, that I voiced displeasure at as well, included Volbeat, Three Days Grace, Halestorm, P.O.D., Alice in Chains, and Bullet for my Valentine. This year’s lineup? Who the hell is Morning Parade? I don’t even know most of these bands. I’ve heard that 105.7 re-branded to a more alternative station, but I feel like they’re burning a generation of fans that want to go to a big show an enjoy themselves but won’t because they have no idea who’s playing. I’ll probably still go to the show, and I love giving new bands a chance. The kicker is that I’m not a very big fan of A.F.I., Blue October or Neon Trees. So if the other bands sound like them, it’s just something I don’t identify with.
We’ll see though, it’s good to see some decent groups coming to Missouri. I’m excited for the Mayhem Festival lineup, which is due to be announced March 31. The show plays in Kansas City on July 15 and St. Louis July 16.
The nominees for the sixth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards Show were announced this week. The show is set for Wednesday Apr. 23 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.
The list of performers is set to include Guns N Roses, with lead singer Axl Rose to receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award. Joan Jett is set to perform and be the first female to receive the Golden God Award. Additional performers include Korn, A Day to Remember, Zakk Wylde and The Pretty Reckless, with others to be announced.
Despite the announcement that two longtime members of their band were retiring, Lacuna Coil is moving forward. The Revolver Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock Tour featuring Sick Puppies, Lacuna Coil, Eyes Set to Kill and Cilver is slated to begin today.
Cristiano “Pizza” Migliore, on guitars, and drummer/percussionist Cristiano ‘CriZ’ Mozzati announced earlier this week that they were leaving the band. The announcement was made largely public on the bands Facebook page. The band’s label, Century Media Records, quickly released a statement saying LC will be joined on the tour by drummer Ryan Folden, who performed live with them on the majority of the 2012 and 2013 ‘Dark Legacy’ and ‘Dark Adrenaline’ tours.
The group went on to release a second song from their upcoming album “Broken Crown Halo,” due out on March 31 overseas and April 1 in North America. Check out “Die & Rise” below. The HCIHR Tour kicks off tonight in Wilmington, N.C.
Rockstar has announced the dates for the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Almost immediately, fans of the tour in Florida displayed their anger at no dates in the Sunshine State on social media. Typically, dates are added later, but the tour is booked pretty solid from July 5 to Aug. 10. (more…)
Probably the biggest bit of hype for the mid-March release of The Pretty Reckless‘ second album “Going to Hell,” which the band announced in May of last year, is the official video for the song “Heaven Knows.” In it lead singer, and former Miss Cindy Lou Who, Taylor Momsen opens her robe to reveal she is nude yet her naughtiest parts are covered by the band’s customized gothic cross logo on her body. Loudwire.com reports the emblem is the one that the singer and band have used frequently in promoting the album, which also appears on the artwork for their ‘Going to Hell’ disc. (more…)
Lacuna Coil will release their new album, Broken Crown Halo, on March 31 in Europe and April 1 in North America. The band has released the first song from the record, “Nothing Stands in Our Way.” The song has heavy nu-metal influences and carries their sound from their 2012 release, Dark Adrenaline, which peaked at 15 on the Billboard 200.
Korn premiered the video for “Spike in My Veins,” today. It is the third video from their 2013 release The Paradigm Shift. In the video, the group pokes at topics such as the government data surveillance program and how caught up on celebrity news major outlets are.
From the get go, we see the band jamming in a room filled with TV monitors. Displayed are news reports of the NSA data surveillance program interrupted with a report on Justin Bieber. There are videos of Toronto mayor Rob Ford and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and then it cuts to Miley Cyrus and Kanye West.
I think Korn is really aiming at how laughable news coverage is in the U.S.
The band kicks off a world tour starting February 20th in Australia.
